Hello,
Does anyone know of a good plugin that will generate subharmonics?
I would like to put a little more low frequency "oomph" into my bass
track. Preferrable LADSPA, but VST would work, too.
Thanks for any help!

Thank you MR Hawaii, I forgot I had installed that, but looking in its man-page,
makes references to non-distructive editing. If I understand the concept, I
would think editing out portions of sound would certainly be destroying an
orriginal. Meanwhil, if I run nana -t and a file name, I get the following
error:
Found config file: /home/chime/.namarc
YAML::Tiny found bad indenting in line ' consumer:' at
/usr/share/perl5/Audio/Nama/Assign.pm line 283.
So please, how do I fix this-and-would NAMA be an interactive editor? Thanks in
advance

Research tells me that QSynth seems to be the only currently
available/usable GUI for FluidSynth, but I get big xruns whenever I try and
use it. FluidSynth itself doesn't cause me problems (I know because I'm able
to use the FluidSynth-DSSI plugin fine in Rosegarden etc). The problem is
that I want to use FluidSynth with Ardour3, but Ardour3 doesn't support DSSI
plugins yet. So the only solution I have is to find a standalone interface
for FluidSynth and then to link up using Jack. I looked at the old GUI
'FluidGUI' but it seems to be so old that it won't properly install on
recent versions of Ubuntu.
So does anyone know of:
1) A GUI for FluidSynth other than QSynth and FluidGUI?... or
2) An application other than the above 2 which would allow me to load
soundfonts?
Thanks in advance.

There is a VST plugin that runs Pure Data patches
http://pd-pulp.net/
The Oxe FM synth is now available as a native Linux VST
https://github.com/oxesoft/oxefmsynth
There is a Renoise tool that provides an interface for the processors
from the Composers Desktop Project.
http://forum.renoise.com/index.php/topic/41882-new-tool-30-cdp-lua-tool/
Nick Dowell's amSynth now works as a native Linux VST
http://amsynth.github.io/
RtCmix has the beginnings of an IDE useful for Linux users
https://github.com/jwmatthys/cmixide
Commercial interest is higher than ever, with samplers from Renoise
(Redux) and discoDSP (Bliss), synths from u-he, discoDSP (Vertigo), and
Tracktion (MicroSynths). Bitwig continues its climb towards a 1.2
release, the betas finally have JACK transport control and support for
loading FXP/FXB presets into synths such as Obxd and Extent Of The Jam's
DigitsVST. Lots of movement on the DAW front, with updated offerings
from Renoise, Mixbus, and Tracktion.
Good times for Linux-based musicians.
Best,

I was very excited to find a video of the
complete
Tristan and Isolde on YouTube recently,
complete with
English subtitles.
I used the youtube-dl utility to grab the video,
but
when I began playing the copy on my hard-drive
with
totem, to my horror, the English subtitles
were
not there! To repeat, the subtitles are on
youtube.com but not in the .webm file that
I
downloaded with youtube-dl.
Can someone coach me how to download a version
with the English subtitles? Or are there subtitles
in my downloaded version and totem is just not
playing them?
Thank you for your help.
P.S. On the totem menu under View, there
is a
command called Subtitles
but this prompts me for
another file.
Is there a subtitle file in addition
to
the video file that I need to download from
youtube? Thanks again.
Hi all!
I found this old discussion about the Zoom R16 in the archive of LAU.
http://linuxaudio.org/mailarchive/lau/2012/3/14/188926
Strangely, in that archive there is a missing reply from Mr. Brett McCoy.
(You can find the missing one a the bottom of this archive:
http://linux-audio.4202.n7.nabble.com/Zoom-R16-td7748.html )
Mr. McCoy claims to have enabled the Zoom R8 (yes, there is quite a
difference between r16 and r8) as a multi-input soundcard for ardour and
also as a control surface in 12.04 64bits.
There is no information as to which driver is being in use in his post. And
searching the web only leads me to various WIP to get the R16 running on
linux.
My question is, has anyone got any news about this device and a possible
drivers?
Specifically to Mr. Brett McCoy: what driver did you use to make jack aware
of your r8?
Thank full for any hints, yours,

Checking through 'stuff' I just realised I never mentioned on here my most
extreme chill-out composition... and that was 2 years ago.
So here is just over 5 minutes of wind-down music.

Enjoy :)

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hey everyone!
Remember the times when the latest project "droning" tune was still twenty
forty something?
Well, those times are over. Introducing a new batch, droning249-droning257.
Download here: http://www.disc-shelf.com/droning/
*Descriptions*
Always not sure whether I want to force my interpretation on the listeners,
but I'll give the descriptions anyway.
droning249 - *mesmerizing tune with a feeling of freshness*
droning250 - *quiet dark vibes, cave-like*
droning251 - *ambience of the cold outside*
droning252 - *this is an interesting mix of mystery, thoughtfulness and
wonder*
droning253 - *a piece dedicated to mountain tourists, capturing the beauty
and quiet danger of winter nature*
droning254 - *remember blood moon photos recently? this is it*
droning255 - *a very epic tune; I am very interested what people associate
this with, what kinds of images and feelings*
droning256 - *one of those tunes that to me seem like clearly a "place
tune", meaning it depicts some strange atmospheric place*
droning257 -
*huge spaces, small objects*
*Support project "droning"*
There are two major ways to support the project.
1. Spread the word. This is biggest help, since in our world of diversity
and enormous amounts of media, getting heard is not easy. Many even very
good projects go unnoticed.
2. Buy something at my Bandcamp. You can get flac versions of dronings
there, I am constantly adding releases.

Thank you!

I have hesitated for weeks to post here with such a basic and possibly
stupid problem, but I am at my wits end with this.
I run Ubuntu 12.04 on a desktop computer and also on a small notebook.
Sound is fine on both of them, and I can play midi files through
tiMidity with no problem.
I want to use a midi-capable electric piano as an input device, and I
reckoned the first thing to do was to get some suitable software and
make sure I could play a midi file from a midi editor.
I have QjackCtl, Qtractor (I also have Muse) and Qsynth installed. I
have spent weeks, on and off, trying to solve the basic problem of
getting some sound from Qtractor (or Muse), but although both the editor
and QjackCtl show that an imported midi file is actually being played, I
get no sound whatsoever. This is true for both computers, even though
their hardware is pretty different. As I said earlier, the sound on
both computers is fine in other contexts, so it is almost certainly some
fundamental error on my part, but I have no idea what is wrong. I have
tried all sorts of different sets of connections in QjackCtl, but never
heard a note yet!
Having read various posts in the forum archive, I tried running
jack-metro. QjackCtl shows that the metronome is running, but
connecting the metronome to the system outputs produces no sound, so the
problem seems to be at this level.
If anyone feels they have the patience to try to point me in the right
direction, I shall be very grateful indeed.
David
Hi,
i want to connect 2 computers (Linux Mint + KXStudio) and use the
JackTransport on one (the master) to guide the other (the slave)
- On the master i have jack2 running and Claudia.
i run in terminal: jack_netsource -H 192.168.1.128 <-- = address of master
The reply = Not Connected and i see in Claudia a small window appear called
"NetJack". It has 2 inputs, 2 outputs and a midi in and out. And, yes, they
are not connected to anything.
- On the slave i have jack2 running and Claudia.
i run in terminal: jack_netsource -s 192.168.1.129 <-- = address of slave
This is the output:
menno@huiskamer:~$ jack_netsource -s 192.168.1.129

Is this the way to go to connect computers?
