Steinway_IMIS2.2 soundfont (no loops fix)

This is Steinway_IMIS soundfont, version 2.2. ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/sf2/Steinway_IMIS2.2 This version fixes the issue with loops. I hope this is the good one and there are no more remaining major bugs. Marcos is a little busy right now, so he asked me to make this fix. He is thinking to make other improvements, so expect more updates soon.

LinnStrument on Linux

Dear list, I recently bought a LinnStrument from Roger Linn Design: http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/linnstrument.html It is a great isomorphic midi-controller, and as such it is immediately recognized on Linux. The distinguishing feature of the LinnStrument is that it senses 3 degrees of freedom on each note: x-direction, y direction and z-direction (pressure). The x-direction is mapped to pitch-bend, and y-direction to CC74. A cool feature is the "slide", where the pitch-bend is used to slide between all notes in a row. To allow individual pitch and CC74 values for each note, it sends each note on a separate midi-channel ("MPE"): http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/implementing-mpe.html Bitwig has added support for this, and there is 20 presets in version 1.3.11, where this is used (tag: linnstrument). The LinnStrument controller is not recognized automatically on Linux in version 1.3.11, but it can be configured manually, and then it works fine. Note that both midi-in and midi-out has to be configured, if not there is no sound! It should look like this: https://ibin.co/2msBJVgpKtf9.png Now I would like to also use it with the free Linux synths. Here's what I have been able to make work this far. Synthv1: PME works reasonably well: I can play polyphonic in MPE mode, but it tends to miss the "note off"s. I can get the slide to work, by setting <param index="36" name="DEF1_PITCHBEND">2</param> <param index="78" name="DEF2_PITCHBEND">2</param> is a preset. Zynaddsubfx: I can not get MPE to work. Sending only on one channel, and setting PWheelB.Rng to 2400 cents, I cant get the sliding to work, but only when playing with one finger. If I enable MPE on the LinnStrument there is only an occasional sound, when it happens to send on the channel, that Zyn is listening on. I'll love to hear if other LinnStrument users have been able to do more with any of the free synths on Linux. All the best, Thomas

This is an unedited improv where I was trying out a couple of my latest voice patches. I used two keyboards one set to transmit on MIDI channel 1 and the other on channel 2. The pads (LH) are 'Ghost Ensemble' and the lead (RH) is 'Angel Harp'. Some of the pauses are intentional others are "Heck! John Option - Any: new song and new Adrour project

Of course the song is published under the terms of the Creative Commons License (CC-BY-SA) and it's completely produced with free software: Ardour, Hydrogen, Jack, Qsynth, CALF, and many other great free audio software that we used under Debian GNU/Linux. A linux-based FM radio station

I'm happy to report that as of this morning, 100-Watt KNYO-FM in Fort Bragg California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KNYO-LP) is running on Linux, Linux Audio and Free Software. (Well, then again, I can't speak for their website; I didn't set that up, and it looks like an F5 box, dunno what they run. But the actual streaming and broadcast radio signal chain up to the transmitter is Linux.) The FM transmitter is in a remote location getting its audio program from a Raspberry Pi running Raspbian connected via DSL to a Linode running Airtime and Icecast2 for station automation and streaming. The studio machine is a Linux Mint XFCE box running The BUTT connected via DSL to the Linode and Airtime. I've done a few Liquidsoap customizations to Airtime to fill in missing features (AutoDJ, saving incoming streams, etc) and will be doing more, possibly contributing them upstream if I can keep them clean and general enough. -ken

A kind of christmas song

My little weird project has released a song this year as well, ready to ruin the holiday cheer for those that want it. It's mostly doom this year I guess, sprinkled with some bongo parts and such nonsense. And some chaos at the end. As usual with this band (and a reason why I rarely post about the releases here), it's a total rush job, with the vocalist doing his parts only last week, and me trying to squeeze in some bad mixing job until I had to upload it yesterday, when I left home for the rest of the year. I know some people have trouble with bandcamp, so if you can't listen (or take advantage of the free download), and have a good idea for a place I could upload it for easy wget, let me know! free/libre/open online music distribution

ahoy all, i have been doing some research into free/libre software and/or services for music distribution. my preferences are a *customizable* static HTML+CSS+JavaScript site (e.g. like the current crop of static site generators https://staticsitegenerators.net ) that i can host myself which allows streaming and free/libre downloads of releases/tracks. basically i am looking for a simple static site generator that is album/track/audio aware, though i am open to any solutions available. my current list is small and all save one require a full-blown CMS+DB install: * Pushtape http://pushtape.com - currently only Drupal based * CASH Music platform http://cashmusic.org - PHP+DB requirement for self hosting - also available as a free/beer service hosted by CASH Music with embeddable widgets - currently no streaming support * WordPress - there are some freemium plugins for hosting a music store, etc. but again i am trying to avoid the setup+maintenance of a full CMS * indieTorrent https://indietorrent.org - online only service - very interesting/cool manifesto https://indietorrent.org/docs/manifesto/ - not lots of activity but still kicking https://indietorrent.org/4rum/viewtopic.php?f=1&p=39#p39 - not specifically for self hosting but as it is open source it could be done others (ReverbNation, Jamendo, Magnatune, Bandcamp, Bandpage, thesixtyone, etc) are all either non-libre, non-self hosting, etc. if anyone has any items to add to this list, experience with a service, homemade solutions, etc. i would appreciate them sharing it. i figure since we all go through various amounts of trouble to follow our principles/passions/whatever by using free/libre tools when making music, sharing it would be no different. thanks, w

M-Audio Fast Track Pro: unreliable, distorted recording

I'm the (un?)lucky owner of an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB audio interface and I'm having some serious problems getting this device to record audio reliably under Linux. I've been using arecord and occasionally Audacity for all of my testing. My problem is this: Recording a take works about 80% of the time. In the remaining ~20% of cases, the captured audio is extremely loud with severe digital distortion. Once this problem shows up, it persists for any subsequent takes. The only way I've found to make the problem go away, at least temporarily, is to power-cycle the Fast Track Pro. I considered the possibility that this particular device might be defective, but it seems to work wonderfully under Windows. I'm calling out to other Fast Track Pro users in the hope that someone out there has encountered the same problem and better still, found a solution. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated! .lewis
