Well, I suppose you could investigate whatever parts of the PDF standard pertain to embedding audio and maybe figure out how to use Linux tools to programmatically extract it. I have no idea how to do that.
I think installing Acrobat Reader would be faster. You could uninstall it afterward.

Hmm, play the PDF while running jack_capture to save the audio output to another file?
Just guessing. Didn't even know you could embed audio in a PDF.

Hey,
does anyone know of a grid looper, either as soft- or hardware? I am
looking for a looper that organizes the loops in a grid, allowing one
loop to be active per column and activating all loops in a row with one
action.
Luppp¹ is doing pretty much what I am looking for but has some
drawbacks: mainly no Jack sync and no stereo.
Though Ableton Live seems to have a similar feature (not used it myself)
I want to use free software, of course,—or a hardware device.
Thanks a lot,
Olli

Hi all,
New images are ready for testing (amd64, i386) ;)
io GNU/Linux is a Live DVD/USB based on Debian Sid and focused on multimedia.
-> Kernel 4.9.13 and 4.9.13-rt, Jack2+PulseAudio as default sound server (can
be easily changed to Jack2+AlsaLoop, Jack2+ZitaBridge, PulseAudio or Alsa)
-> Enlightenment (e21) as desktop environment and a big collection of
installed software... Full persistence for USB install (with encryption) and
more stuff...
For more infos: manual, packages list, screenshots, video etc... Visit:
-> http://io.gnu.linux.free.fr
-> https://sourceforge.net/projects/io-gnu-linux/
Feedbacks welcome, enjoy :)

I came across web pages and videos of this device.
http://artiphon.com.
I'm quite tempted but thought I'd ask if anyone has tried one.
The reviews seem to go for Apple (iOS) software, but the blurb
implies that it is just a midi device, so it should be usable
on Linux.
Any opinions?
Thanks
Bill

A technical question for those familiar with MIDI coding, in particular
with Fluid.
I've been writing a little program to simplify selecting instruments
with Calf Fluidsynth.
With the standard General Midi voices it works fine, but I wanted to be
able to select the
additional voices from the Fluid3-GM.sf2 patches. I managed to figure
out the bank/patch
numbers using Swami (is there an easier way to list them?) and modified
my code to send
bank select parameters (0xB0, 32, bank#) before the patch number but it
doesn't seem to
affect Fluid. It just sets to the equivalent standard GM voice. I can
set the the additional
ones by clicking the Fluid voice select buttons, but it's tedious
scrolling up and down the
long list of voices. My program divides the voices into categories and
displays the patches
in that category (defined by a simple text file).
So, am I using the right codes for bank select with Fluid? My list of
midi parameters says
0xb0+chan, 00, MSB, 0xb0+chan, 32, LSB for bank selects.
Also, I'd like to select the drum kits, which seem to have a bank of 128
which I assume
needs setting the MSB=1, but does that apply for Fluid?
Many thanks if you can help.
Bill

From the review I read, Ryzen seems to give just about the same or better performance as corresponding Intel CPUs (8 core<>8 core, etc). At about half the cost of the Intel chip.
I've run AMD and Intel chips. I think for audio work they're about the same. If I have to replace my present AMD machine, I'd go for a Ryzen. Gotta get a new motherboard either way and don't have the Intel $$$ in the budget right now.

This is now out in the wild, and I've seen the first review running under
Windows. It seems to be coming out fairly well, but apparently not quite as
good as comparable Intel processors when running with small buffer sizes.
I wasn't entirely clear as to whether that was a specific issue for the way
Windows manages buffers, or not.
Has anyone had an opportunity to try one under Linux? I'm thinking ov getting a
replacement machine sometime this year as my current DAW is about 8 years old
and starting to do odd things :(

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
