Hi,
a2jmidid bridges alsa MIDI ports with JACK MIDI ports.
It's a quite old and unmaintained? program.
Is it still needed with recent JACK2 server or is there an alternative.
I know JACK1 has this functionality built-in, what's JACK2 status?
Thanks
Guido
Ciao
Ladies and Gentlemen,
this years Sonoj Convention is only a month away. (October 27th and 28th).
https://www.sonoj.org/register.html
Our list of speakers and talks is as good as finished now (except the
start times). We will have a live world premiere of an unreleased open
source synth (Vital), two talks about sampled instrument creations
(Drumgizmo and an sfz bass), a tracker interface for Ardour, a Qtractor
introduction by the author himself, modding old speakers into decent
ones, the future of JACK and finally a talk about composing tricks and
techniques.. On top there is an open slot for surprises! :)
As you have read last time there is no visitor number limit anymore. But
you still need to register if you want to come. Now is a good time to do
just that:
Write a mail to info(a)sonoj.org <mailto:info@sonoj.org> or use the website
https://www.sonoj.org/register.html . Your name and e-mail address are
enough.
If you don't have time be aware that the whole event will be live
streamed and you can interact with us and other remote visitors through
a live chat. A link is already on the website.
In the meantime: Have a look at our old recordings and please subscribe
to our Youtube channel.

let's put it this way:
jack2 implementation to "seq" (jack-midi) driver is an old decade+ and
quite frankly outdated and flawed re. to timing and what not
jack1 implementation, standing for the (-X) "alsamidi" for that matter,
is independent if not the same as to running a2jmidid in the background,
and as infrastructure (like IaaS, eh?:) also, on jack1, that goes
straight and _independent_ of whether you run (-d) "alsa" driver at all;
of course, only granted to work on linux, but otoh jack2 makes it
locked-in to the "alsa" audio diver anyhow, so you get the picture.
nb. on jack1, selecting (-X) "seq", as the preferred jack-midi driver
_is_exactly_the_same_as_ running "a2jmidid -e &", so that wouldn't be a
viable option no longer ;)
and yes, to let my stanfd be clear enough, jack2 _shall_ make the
"alsamidi" (internal client?) driver ported in from jack1 alright.
for all the people that use jack2, please do and rely on good old
a2jmidid--it just works at lot and way better than any other option (but
jack1's;)
cheers

I just came across this job posting
https://www.amazon.jobs/en/jobs/894336/applied-scientist
from Amazon Lab 126 and am positively surprised that they are asking for
experience with Alsa, Linux and realtime systems.
Lab 126 seems to be an R&D lab contributing to products like Kindle, Fire
tablets, Fire TV and Amazon Echo, the speaker for their Alexa service
which suffers from severe privacy issues, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Alexa#Privacy_concerns
Does anyone know if any of these devices are using Linux as their OS?
A quick online research did not confirm nor deny this.
Despite Echo/Alexa being a questionable product in my view, as for example
described in
https://www.engadget.com/2019/04/30/hey-alexa-how-can-we-escape-surveillanc…
it would be a great example of widespread use of Linux in an audio
product.

Hi *,
I am attending an MPEG-H workshop with the Fraunhofer IIS Soundlab.
MPEG-H shall be used for immersive audio and assistive technologies in
DVB technologies (and hopefully more).
At the moment, there is no Linux plugin. Only au and vst. But, an
engineer of Fraunhofer offered me that he would initiate a Linux plugin
development if I can find more then three people, who are interested.
I took this bet!
So please support me!

Hey everyone!
I have recovered three tracks that I made during LAC2013. Restored from
their sorry state to something more palatable, these 10 minutes of music
will allow you to join me on this nostalgic journey and reminisce about
times long gone!
https://soundcloud.com/louigiverona/sets/lac2013
On track one you can hear samples taken out of the lecture by Rui on
QStuff, which I recorded with a mic right there and immediately
incorporated into the music.
"You are the user!"
This is true Linux Audio community lore :D

Hey hey,
a new synthpop tune. Someone said it sounds 80ish, although I aimed for the
naughties. It's all one hardware synth, sequenced, recorded, mixed and master
in Linux with my usual setup.

I hope you enjoy it, whether for its sounds or the music. I'm looking forward
to your impressions, if you have any. :)
Best wishes and enjoy,
Jeanette
