Steinway_IMIS2.2 soundfont (no loops fix)

This is Steinway_IMIS soundfont, version 2.2. ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/sf2/Steinway_IMIS2.2 This version fixes the issue with loops. I hope this is the good one and there are no more remaining major bugs. Marcos is a little busy right now, so he asked me to make this fix. He is thinking to make other improvements, so expect more updates soon.

Raspberry PI and PISound

Is anybody out here in LAU land have experience with PISound? https://www.blokas.io/pisound/ I have just bought one and am having quite sever teething problems with it. LinnStrument on Linux

Dear list, I recently bought a LinnStrument from Roger Linn Design: http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/linnstrument.html It is a great isomorphic midi-controller, and as such it is immediately recognized on Linux. The distinguishing feature of the LinnStrument is that it senses 3 degrees of freedom on each note: x-direction, y direction and z-direction (pressure). The x-direction is mapped to pitch-bend, and y-direction to CC74. A cool feature is the "slide", where the pitch-bend is used to slide between all notes in a row. To allow individual pitch and CC74 values for each note, it sends each note on a separate midi-channel ("MPE"): http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/implementing-mpe.html Bitwig has added support for this, and there is 20 presets in version 1.3.11, where this is used (tag: linnstrument). The LinnStrument controller is not recognized automatically on Linux in version 1.3.11, but it can be configured manually, and then it works fine. Note that both midi-in and midi-out has to be configured, if not there is no sound! It should look like this: https://ibin.co/2msBJVgpKtf9.png Now I would like to also use it with the free Linux synths. Here's what I have been able to make work this far. Synthv1: PME works reasonably well: I can play polyphonic in MPE mode, but it tends to miss the "note off"s. I can get the slide to work, by setting <param index="36" name="DEF1_PITCHBEND">2</param> <param index="78" name="DEF2_PITCHBEND">2</param> is a preset. Zynaddsubfx: I can not get MPE to work. Sending only on one channel, and setting PWheelB.Rng to 2400 cents, I cant get the sliding to work, but only when playing with one finger. If I enable MPE on the LinnStrument there is only an occasional sound, when it happens to send on the channel, that Zyn is listening on. I'll love to hear if other LinnStrument users have been able to do more with any of the free synths on Linux. All the best, Thomas

This one is made by programming Pd to generate MIDI fed to Yoshimi and in turn feeding Yoshimi's audio back to Pd to 'lo-fi' it for good. On linux, of course. Released a small sample pack

Hey hey, I just released the numbers sample pack: http://juliencoder.de/sound/numbers-1.0.zip It contains the numbers 0 to 20 in both English and German as well as some other calculator related words like minus, integral, function, logarithm, etc. The samples were made with espeak-ng and a modified voice variant. The pack also contains two scripts to create the numbers 0 to 20 in every language that is available for both espeak-ng and Apple's say. The samples are CC-BY 4.0. Update of jmatconvol

Hello all, Jmatconvol-0.4.0 is now available at <http://kokkinizita.linuxaudio.org/linuxaudio/downloads> Jmatconvol (not to be confused with jconvolver) is a real-time convolution engine optimised for a dense matrix of short convolutions. Maximum size is 64 inputs * 64 outputs * 4096 samples. Typical applications are processing signals from multichannel microphones such as the Eigenmike, beamformers for speaker arrays, etc. A file processor (fmatconvol) accepting the same configuration files is included as well. Getting Pulseaudio Applications with Pipewire to Work on Artix Linux

Hello all, Has anyone here gotten Pipewire to work without systemd? I installed all of the Arch Linux packages on my Artix machine, and everything works great, except for pulseaudio applications, as it complains about missing a systemd socket. I'm not sure what I can do to use pulseaudio applications with pipewire. Thanks so much for all of your help, Brandon Hale

Discussion: Future CPU-technology vs. realtime audio?

Hi! Yesterday, I read an article on golem.de (https://www.golem.de/news/ryzen-mobile-5000-cezanne-ist-modular-und-sparsam…) about the future of ryzen (mobile) processors from AMD. Inside the article, it was told that energy saving is done by the processor itself and that the OS will have nothing to do with it. Using realtime apps, I wrote in the comments that I'd really prefer the possibility for userspace interaction and criticized my Intel core i3 8100 not to allow the user to switch to firm frequencies. It was answered that this seems to be the future and that in case of doubt I could switch off frequency scaling in the BIOS. That would mean a lack of comfort to me, as I can't certainly tell, if I am using my machine for audio or another task at the moment of powering on. As soon as frequency switching was introduced we LAU were told, not to use it to save xruns. And as far as I can tell, the rule still valid. Is there a chance in the future that we can stop thinking about it, because it just won't matter? Are we forced blowing loads of energy or do we spent too much time in sluggish UEFI menus? I'd really like to hear your opinion about it (and possible solutions, too)! Greets! Mitsch

mididings alternative for ubuntu studio 20.04 and newer?

Hi all, I recently migrated to ubuntu studio 20.04 and was wondering why no mididings package exists any more. When sure enough I has to do with dropping python2 and the lack of maintainers for mididings. How have you handled this ? Is there an alternative or do you reinstate python2 and build mididings ? Many Faces of the Gentoo ProAudio overlay

This question is Gentoo specific, but there isn't a single place where it would be good to ask, so, for those here who may be Gentoo users: Which ProAudio overlay should we follow these days? I know of at least three of them now! "nilburn": This one says it's "The new Gentoo ProAudio Overlay", which I've been following for awhile, but it never seems to have any changes, so I'm starting to doubt it's the one everyone is really using. Oddly, its web page is at https://gitlab.com/nilburn/proaudio, but the usage instructions on that page tell you to use the URL below instead: sync-uri = https://gitlab.com/proaudio/proaudio.git "tuxfamily": This is the old one, and I _think_ it's supposed to now be deprecated, though I'm on its listserv with no posting access (so I can't ask questions there). It seems to still get activity now and then. Is this still the active overlay? layman -a pro-audio "audio-overlay": Seems small, but with three of them around, what do I know? Maybe this one is the one...? sync-uri = https://github.com/gentoo-audio/audio-overlay.git I actually do have a working system here, and I've got all the programs I need, but I'd still like to know how these overlays all relate to eachother, and where all the action is these days. I'm so confused.
