This is Steinway_IMIS soundfont, version 2.2.
ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/sf2/Steinway_IMIS2.2
This version fixes the issue with loops. I hope this is the good one
and there are no more remaining major bugs.
Marcos is a little busy right now, so he asked me to make this fix. He
is thinking to make other improvements, so expect more updates soon.
Is anybody out here in LAU land have experience with PISound?
https://www.blokas.io/pisound/
I have just bought one and am having quite sever teething problems with it.
It keeps freezing for ~45 seconds when running X and I cannot get it to
use the full display.
cheers

Dear list,
I recently bought a LinnStrument from Roger Linn Design:
http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/linnstrument.html
It is a great isomorphic midi-controller, and as such it is immediately
recognized on Linux.
The distinguishing feature of the LinnStrument is that it senses 3
degrees of freedom on each note: x-direction, y direction and
z-direction (pressure). The x-direction is mapped to pitch-bend, and
y-direction to CC74.
A cool feature is the "slide", where the pitch-bend is used to slide
between all notes in a row.
To allow individual pitch and CC74 values for each note, it sends each
note on a separate midi-channel ("MPE"):
http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/implementing-mpe.html
Bitwig has added support for this, and there is 20 presets in version
1.3.11, where this is used (tag: linnstrument). The LinnStrument
controller is not recognized automatically on Linux in version 1.3.11,
but it can be configured manually, and then it works fine. Note that
both midi-in and midi-out has to be configured, if not there is no
sound! It should look like this: https://ibin.co/2msBJVgpKtf9.png
Now I would like to also use it with the free Linux synths.
Here's what I have been able to make work this far.
Synthv1:
PME works reasonably well: I can play polyphonic in MPE mode, but it
tends to miss the "note off"s.
I can get the slide to work, by setting
<param index="36" name="DEF1_PITCHBEND">2</param>
<param index="78" name="DEF2_PITCHBEND">2</param>
is a preset.
Zynaddsubfx:
I can not get MPE to work.
Sending only on one channel, and setting PWheelB.Rng to 2400 cents, I
cant get the sliding to work, but only when playing with one finger.
If I enable MPE on the LinnStrument there is only an occasional sound,
when it happens to send on the channel, that Zyn is listening on.
I'll love to hear if other LinnStrument users have been able to do more
with any of the free synths on Linux.
All the best,
Thomas

You are right, the behavior is completely different when opening after the
first time. It appears that the first time the application is run there
are some resources not yet setup, but when they are created the
application does not load them right away. Run once, shut down, run again
and all the translated text labels and menus are available.
It does look like it could be interesting.

Hello all,
Have you ever wanted to use cm-incudine, but felt like it was too hard
or too much work to install on your Arch Linux-based distro? Now you can
install it with https://github.com/brandflake11/install-cm-incudine
<https://github.com/brandflake11/install-cm-incudine>. This script will
take you from zero to hero, installing emacs, slime, quicklisp, and all
of the dependencies needed for cm-incudine.
Hopefully this helps you install cm-incudine if you've ever been
interested, but couldn't figure out all of the smaller bits. Feedback is
welcome!
Thank you very much for your time,

Is Open Sound Control still a thing? Was it ever?
I am shopping for a mixer, I am a bit worried that the digital controls
are a bit too propitiatory. I do not want to get orphaned by a firm
going out of business and letting its iPad App rot. OSC looks like a
solution, but it does not seem to be implemented by many vendors
I am hoping that eventually the mixer will be controllable by the
software I am building around a Raspberry Pi

Hi everyone from a new one to this list.
It is a sort of experiment. Suppose you have a multi channel audio file, i.e.
composed by, say, three, or four different channels. Is it possibile (I guess
it is), and how?, to send each of the four channels into a different
loudspeaker and so listen to the song...? Do you think, e.g., the Behringer
UMC404HD audio interface will allow to do that?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Rodolfo
Hi list,
I am wondering if the Motu M64 Madi audio interface is class compliant
or not. The only information I found so far is Paul Davis mentioning it
was not on https://discourse.ardour.org/t/usb2-3-madi-adat/88392/13
Nevertheless I plugged one in today and was able to select it as a
device in qjackctl but did not get jackd to start using it. I had very
little time and forgot to take logs and messages.
thanks for all hints!

In either Yoshimi or ZynAddSubFX, is anyone making use of the Eq.T. (Equal
Temperament variation) control. If so, what are you using it for?
It really is a very strange thing.

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hey everyone!
Presenting a tune called "Holographic". I referred to it as completely open
source music, because it was written with an open source tracker (OpenMPT)
and is released as an IT file, which means you can open it in any Impulse
Tracker compatible program and actually see exactly how it was made, down
to every note.
You can listen with the online player or download:
