Well, OSS is also collection of cross-platform drivers...
There are several cross-platform interfaces to audio
drivers out there.
It is quite rare to be able to achieve anywhere near "bit perfect"
output from these... :(
And last thing I want is some "you have new mail" -bing mixed in while
listening music.
