Thank you - you may well be correct about the dumbness - although I had
thought that realtime was enabled - perhaps the tech at the show moved
some values trying to fix the problem- The hdspConf had indeed been
moved from 96k to 48 - no idea how or why and this was certainly causing
problems. Thanks for the responses - it is running and i'll take it back
to the show - which unfortunately has no internet installed.

and there we have the "root" of your problem. first thing to try is to
start varying the parameters and see if anything makes a different
(period size being the obvious one, but also sample rate).
