Thanks! That did it. I just added:
LFLAGS = -L/usr/local/qwt-5.0.2/lib
to the src/Makefile and it built.

Yes, I tried exporting
LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/qwt-5.0.2/lib (that's
where the qwt libs are) and still same problem.

Have you tried to look at LIBS string inside qmake-generated src/Makefile?
