actually, you're not.
a careful reading of the docs reveals:
type ladspa # LADSPA plugin PCM
slave STR # Slave name (see pcm_slave)
path STR # Path or paths (delimited with ':')
plugins | playback_plugins | capture_plugins {
[ ... ]
note the 3 choices for the line that might start "plugins" ...
