Hm, does suspend to disk work at all on current Linux
distros ?
My experience with laptops is that it does when the hardware is standards
compliant. There is also a software suspend kernel patch available for when
it is not.
I use hardware suspend on my firewall when the LAN is not in use. It comes
back up straight away.
