I believe that "jacklaunch csound ..." will work as if you install
libjackasyn, but I've not tried it.
Personally I prefer sfront to csound, it has a more human friendly syntax,
and has fledling native jack support.
How about
sequencers?
I didn't work much with sequencers under linux, but FWIW I've settled on
Muse. Needless to say it's quite simple to route midi events from Muse
to csound.
Rosegarden is also good. And hydrogen is good if you just want drums.
