Thanks to all for the input. It gives me much to think about, and i've asked
some colleagues here about the 'burn' issue. A good call, thanks.
For those driving larger LCD screens, what's the general consensus for
graphic cards, and any extra tweaks you might have had to cope with?
I should add here, this is for usage with the usual apps, Linuxsampler,
Ardour, RG, Jconv, etc. and the biggest intent on my part is to seed as many
tracks as possible on the screen at one time. (I'm using multiple desktops,
as i wrote.)
1 more question if i may?
In past experiments, i've been able to make apps 'stick' to a particular
desktop (or 'viewport'). In KDE i could do this, so when the app opened, it
did so in the right desktop.
I've yet to be successful at this with GTK/gnome, on a regular scriptable
basis. (So my startup script with open apps and templates in sequence, and
do so, each in the right desktop.)
Is this an error on my part, a bit missing in GTK/Gnome, or an Ubuntustudio
challenge in particular?

LCDs much less electrically noisy than even small CRT monitors, I
don't have a studio, just line 6 guitar port, but I had annoying

Not sure what you mean by low resolution, 1920x1080 seems to be
reasonable resolution, most 20+ inch monitors have 1920x1200 which is
not that much of a difference.

Maybe an odd question, but in about 4 weeks
i'll have the chance to
try out a plasma tv as a monitor.
And i'm now firmly entrenched in my single monitor/multiple desktop
daily usage, so i'm keen to use 1 big monitor and switch. (Because i
can. :) )
Have any of you in our linux audio world such a setup?
If you use a plasma tv, what sort of graphics card are you using, and
how big a screen can i consider, for good resolution on a day in day
out basis?
I can't think of anything less suitable for use as a day-to-day monitor
in a studio. They are electrically noisy, often mechanically noisy with
cooling fans, produce huge amounts of heat and have a very low
resolution.
You *will* get interference in your audio equipment from it.
