What about the alternative in this area?
- audio buddy:

I own one of these. I bought it on recommendation from this list, and
I'm very happy with it. I use it for vocals (SM58 mic), electric guitar,
electric bass, and electroacoustic guitar. It's inexpensive and works
perfectly.
I also have an Omni breakout box (with built-in preamps) for my other
Delta 66, but I haven't used it for any serious recording yet, so I
can't comment on its sound. Nice useful box though. :)
Best,

Seconded.
Judge for yourself:

Track 20 uses the DI input with a bass. You can compare it against
much more expensive DI options. Unfortunately, there are no examples
of the Audio Buddy with a mic on that site.

Thanks. It seems that there are a lot different opinions about this
one.... maybe not strange in such a price class...
I'm gonna check the soundsamples..
I also read some positive things about the m-audio dmp3

I think it will go between the:
- m-audio buddy

- m-audio dmp 3
http://www.thomann.de/nl/m-audio_dmp_3.htm
- studio projects vtb1
http://www.thomann.de/nl/studio_projects_vtb1.htm
I think the m-audio dmp3 will serve my wants best, as far as I can judge
it. I think the studio projects is great too but I doubt if it's also
good for my electr. guitar. It's good for voice, I don't doubt about
that, but the dmp is better to serve both aims, mic and guitar...
A great advantage of the buddy is the price, but one comment on the
Harmony Central User Reviews makes me doubt about it:

With self powered mics, it is a clean sound. Here, you get your 90
dollars worth.
I used it to go into a computer sound card. perfect for this.
self noise remains a non-issue till the dials are at about 3'o clock.
THE PROBLEM:
Phantom power. The unit has phantom power. You think 48V?
NOPE. It's 41 volts with one microphone, and DROPS to 31 volts with two
mics. This means that if you have a high end microphone, where proper
phantom power is critical, you can't use this mic. It will make all
kinds of crazy noise, etc.
Sorry - because of the phantom power issue, the Audio Buddy gets
reduced to TOY status.'
I've a shure 58 beta, so I don't know if I have to use phantom power...
but it would be good to have the option I think...
