So where do you get the idea that PulseAudio should be

It was not my intention to give you that impression. It's just that
everybody curses pulseaudio like it should never have existed. I
believe this is wrong, because pulseaudio does solve real problems.
Any good reason why PulseAudio is not installed as a
service that
can be enabled/disabled as seen fit by the user, just as almost all
system components ?
No, I don't disagree with you that your distro is obviously not
setting this up right for you. I've never agreed with any distro on
much. They are always strong in some places and severely lacking in
others. That's why I run my own distro.
