Thank you all for your many suggestions; I will try and have a look at
each as time permits. So far, sfront/SAOL seems most promising. I have
tried using precompiled binaries of csound before but they would
segfault as soon as I'd start using moderately complicated examples:
I'll give them another try just in case...
