I find this sort of thing is often caused by the 0dB attenuator, monodes,
or
the 360deg. phase shifter :)
I try to stay away from the 360 Degree Phase Shifters. They introduce
too much latency, and it varies with frequency!!!
This joke has got some truth in it, since 1:1 transformation really is
done by e.g. di-boxes, MIDInterfaces etc., to avoid issues, but the
galvanic isolation can cause issues, since 1:1 by a transformer could
cause issues for the circuits, since a transformer ships with
"attributes". An opto-coupler also comes with "attributes", that can
cause unwanted side effects.
In the end voodoo isn't voodoo, it's just not visible that there is a
serious cause.
