Maybe patent licenses? ADAT isn't an open
standard AFAIK..
But the Multiface has ADAT too for only $800-900. And it has the
computer uplink as well. It actually looks like it has more
functionality than the ADI-8 (unless I'm missing something), since an
ADI-8 can't be connected directly to a computer, but a Multiface can
via RME's PCI-E card.
