Greetings:
I'd like to know what my fellow LAUyers recommend for a mic preamp for
use with the following gear:
mics:
Shure SM58
Yamaha MZ106s
The gear is used for desktop recording, so I'd
like to keep the cost
low. Like, really low... ;)
Cheapest: M-Audio Audio Buddy.
If you want better sound quality, the next steps up are:
* Mackie 1202 VLZ. Yes, it's a mixer, but the 4 mic inputs are good
bang for buck, worth considering if you think you'll ever need more than
2 channels.
* FMR RNP - "Really Nice Preamp" highly thought of by many of the folks in
rec.audio.pro, a lot more expensive but way below the price of the real
golden channel stuff. Said to make an SM57 really shine.
I don't know about the sound cards you are using with them, but I doubt if
there's a problem with them and any of the above preamps. They all have
unbalanced outputs.
