As one of the folks involved in the Ardour testing effort, I can guarantee
that Ardour2 is considered by its developer as in its alpha testing stage.
Paul has only today released a tarball of Ardour 2, of which he said:
"I have released a second alpha tarball of Ardour 2.0. A huge amount of
work has been done since the last alpha tarball, and although there is
definitely still some important work to be done, this is nearing beta
status. I cannot promise that all of the reports from alpha1 have been
addressed, but they will be before we release a beta."
I'm all for a LiveCD distro of audio/video tools - it's a good idea that
can only help get visibility for the power of Linux in that area.
Putting an immature piece of software, especially one that I consider a
crown jewel of Linux audio software, is only going to hamper the effort.

You say
it's an "official package" which doesn't mean much - it's clearly
a CVS snapshot (and one that's 2 months old to boot) that someone compiled
for Mandriva, likely for testing purposes. Just because it got put in a
repository doesn't make it "official" or even stable.
I highly recommend you use the stable 0.99.2 release of Ardour instead.
