Most modern machines have two or more USB busses. If you connect the
devices to different busses, they should work at the same time just
fine. However connected to one bus, you will probably run into
problems especially with the bandwith. Even audio alone can saturate a
USB1.1 connection completely.

The harddrive will/should be on usb2 and the audio will be usb 1,
therefor different busses/controllers. I've had this working before
with my former dodgy laptop where i had midi keyboard, main hardrive,
sound card and mouse connected to my usb port. ;-)
