Hmm did it work before my patch? That'd be interesting if it's down to
a firmware version difference or something like that.

confirmed working here with
linux 3.2.35-2 SMP PREEMPT RT 3.2.35-2 i686 pae
and 'amixer' as well as 'alsamixer'
