I did see some sort of a solution on
forums.gentoo.org. It had to do
with libxml2. A rather long thread but it can be read here. This was
in November last year.

Weird but it seems to be like this. I've now got jamin working. At
least it doesn't die. Now I just have to figure out how to use it :-)
This is what I did (gentoo). In this order.
emerge libxml2
emerge jamin
emerge jack-audio-connection-kit
