But I can give you a simple example of what is wrong.
I think Ralph was closer to pinning down what's wrong in his
"It's not about facts, it's about emotions." post yesterday.
I am right now on Xubuntu 12.04. So this is not 1975
or 1984 or even 1995.
It is 2013.
Yet, when I ask - how do I make Xubuntu to autologin my user instead of
asking for a password every time, you know what I am told? I am told to
open a config file in a text editor, go to a particular line and write in a
certain value.
I've installed both Ubuntu Studio 13.04 and Xubuntu 12.10 recently
and both offered the option to 'autologin' during the installation,
so I guess it has been 'fixed' since 12.10.
It may be that even in 12.04 the configuration change could have
been accomplished by GUI. But then the person who helped you would
have had to describe a series of mouse clicks and menu choices which
may not have been as easy to follow. Or perhaps your assistant was
much more used to the orriginal way.
This is the reason Linux does not go mass market.
No it isn't.
