This doesn't really apply anymore, the kernel bugs
in question are
thought to be fixed. I run with ACPI enabled now and have not had a
problem in months.
Thanks a lot for the info.
Unfortunately, my Dell notebook (inspiron 8200) has some problems with
ACPI; but thanks to your info I'll try again.
