and have them produce the VST sound), I just want to "export" a MIDI
file through the VST's sound. Am I going the proper way about this, or
is there something simpler I could do?
As far as I can see, you don't need Timidity. Start Jack, FST with the VST
Plugin and Rosegarden with the Midifile. Now you can set Rosegarden to feed
the Midinotes to your Plugin which will make sounds out of them. To do so, go
to the Rosegardentab where you can set your Mididevices ("Midigeräte
verwalten" in german) and choose FST as your standard Mididevice. Then set
the track in Rosegarden to use this device and you should be all set up!
(Except that the audio output of the FST should be connected to the outs in
Jack, of course)
