the buddha spent quite some time as an ascetic too. i believe he
didn't find that to his taste. we're not discussing joy. we're
discussing means of surviving in a the temperate zones on our planet,
which tends to involve some basics like heat, food and shelter. a
loving and wise heart is a wonderful and joyous thing, but by itself,
it won't get you through the winter.
