You could also try purchasing an SBLive! for really cheap just to use
the midi interface. You'd need one of the joystick->midi converters also
(which seem to be fairly widely available).

Getting a new electronic drum kit today, so
I'll be needing a midi
interface. I have an Asus A7V8X-X, which claims to have midi support
on the VIA chipset. Finding the headers for the mobo is difficult.
the mpu401 is not supported by the via chipset, but by the ITE8712AF
Superio chipset on the mobo. midi is avail an the 15 pin header below
this chip. the header has an standard gameport layout
