If it's any help, for Arch there is an AUR package for compiling Carla
from its Git repo:
https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=carla-git
The PKGBUILD file shows the (numerous) dependencies and the compilation
commands used.
