IIRC, the Focusrites only accept 32 bit input at the hardware level,
and USB is also a more CPU-intensive bus. It has to be supervised
continuously, unlike PCI[-x/-e].

little box, and I had been wishing it had 2 more outputs...
Yep. It also has Midi in/out too.. for those legacy keyboards/sound
modules.. and the zero latency headphone mix is very useful.
I think the 2i2 also had some trouble clipping with hot instruments.
The 2i4 has a -10dB pad which helps with this..
