I think the 2i2 also had some trouble clipping with hot instruments.
The 2i4 has a -10dB pad which helps with this..
One thing I
noted is that it seems to be a bit more CPU-intensive than
using my old PCI SBLive soundcard, but I guess this is to be expected.
IIRC, the Focusrites only accept 32 bit input at the hardware level,
and USB is also a more CPU-intensive bus. It has to be supervised
continuously, unlike PCI[-x/-e].
I'd been unaware of the 2i4 before this thread; the 2i2 is a very good
little box, and I had been wishing it had 2 more outputs...
