I know you can boot from USB-Flash drives ('sticks') these days, which
use the USB mass storage protocol just like any hard drive does.
There's an entire section in the Debian Manual on how to install from one.
Sure, booting is the easy part, but this is LAU remember - what do you
record to? Flash drives don't cut it.
