The whysynth DSSI plugin is a decent enough synth. If you use it with
the Ghostess DSSI host you can start multiple instances as required.

I suppose the only complaint that I, personally
have, is that we only have
only one real synth (ZynAddSubFx) provided by Paul Nasca. There are modular
synths, but perhaps not so easy to work with.
In the other direction I'm also fond of amSynth, precisely because of how
simple and limited it is. It doesn't take long to find an interesting
sound.
