The whysynth DSSI plugin is a decent enough synth. If you use it with
the Ghostess DSSI host you can start multiple instances as required.

In the other direction I'm also fond of amSynth, precisely because of how
simple and limited it is. It doesn't take long to find an interesting
sound.
