Probably should have said I'm using Ardour 2.1.
Thanks Hartmut and Stephen. Stumbling around with the Range Markers
line and the tools that you mentioned have helped, but I'm still unable
to consistently get Ranger Markers where I'd like them. (I do know
about CTRL-Z for undoing, but when you're as confused as I am it's
quicker to just Close without Saving changes than spending 5 minutes
backing out of the changes.)
Maybe I need to work with Location Markers and see if I can get Ranger
Markers to follow the Location Markers.
Time to study the manual more. At least now I know what sections of the
manual to restudy.
Thanks for the pointers.
Stephen.
I can see you've got plenty to think about but ...
when making range selections as Stephen and Hartmut described,
be aware of the snap-to-grid setting.
set to grid-off for very fine selection tuning, switching between zoom
tool and select tool to tweak the ends of the selection. ( the selection
is not lost when you switch to zoom and back. not in 2.5 anyway.)
if you are using a click or drum-machine track:
enable the tempo and meter rulers (above the tracks area ) and
right-click on the markers to edit them.
you can now use the snap-to-grid to make rhythmically accurate edits
down to small fractions of a beat.
hope this helps. Ardour is a featureful program with an initial learning
curve, but its well worth the effort.
stay cool, G.
