There are native Java MP3 encoders though, so I might end up using that, but I'd
rather use Vorbis if possible.
i did a search in synaptic (ubuntu precise) for 'java vorbis' and got these:
libcortado-java
libvorbisspi-java
libjorbis-java
the first looks the most likely
