Sadly I was wrong
However I have narrowed it down to the fact that the kernel (?) won't
recognise any soundcard even if the BIOS does - it's exactly the same with my
cs4232 or OPTi82C930.
I despair
I _really_ hope I'm overlooking something stupidly obvious.
