I do have another sound card. Add a second can bring along it's own
complexities, but it's worked before.... + / -.

I get nothing at all from the head-phone jack either.
The funny thing is, this all started when after I tried plugging in a
mic. And that's it.
This is beginning to look horribly like you got a static discharge as
you plugged the mic in that fried the A/D converters :(
