I knew about the RME firewire situation. But, I heard that the newer
firmware in newer RME non-firewire gear was also problematic, even in
units that used to be the best options for Linux. Is your HDSP stuff
new or old?

I ended
up upgrading my hardware to RME (an expensive option, to be
sure) and donating my old Delta1010 unit to a worthy cause. :-)
I've heard, maybe here, that the newer RME firmware is incompatible
with ALSA and that no work is going on with ALSA to rectify this,
maybe in part caused by RME being closed about their design. Is your
RME new or old? Does it work fine?
