I think you guys are missing the point. The announcement linked above says:

Why am I adding this to Ardour?

"
Being able to announce upgrades is a nice side effect, but I don't
think it's the main goal.
The far more valuable point is getting anonymous statistics about
Ardour's usage to plan a better development.
