I believe udev can also do this for you. Not sure how well distros
implement it - last time I checked not well.

IMHO card number should be static and setup by
system conf (index=xx
module option), that sounds much cleaner to me.
How could this possibly be cleaner or simpler than addressing devices by
name like every other OS does?
