that upgrade for the time being. Will an ALSA 0.9x version offer me this
functionality of multiple sound sources at the same time?
Not directly, however another program called Jack will, although it requires
your audio application support the Jack protocol. There are many Jackified
applications now, and many of use it. Check out
http://jackit.sourceforge.net/apps/
