I don't know those preamps, but reputedly the DMP3
is improved over
Maudio's previous models (eg. they deliver real 48V phantom power;
previous models delivered much less than 48 volts.)
But to consider the alternative: You can get a Mackie 1202 VLZ for
$300 US. Less if you buy used. I doubt you can buy two channels of
anything for less money that's really better than the Mackie preamps.
Mackie VLZ are indeed very good for the money, but you cannot expect that
something with hundred times more components migh have same or even better
quality than separate preamp circuit in the same price range.
I have an 1402 VLZ and I'm using the preamps (directly via inserts)
occasinoally. There is only a simple metering and once you use inserts, you
have no metering at all. Also, the only thing you can set is the gain via
tiny knob. It'd also like to have more headroom, -10dB pad etc. etc..
The new Onyx line is probably better, but I would still prefer standalone
preamp as a DAW frontend, especially in this price range.
