Just wanted to add to the previous mail --how will the sample rate be
determined between the two devices, is there a hand shake that takes
place between the two devices when they are connected ? Or is alsa mixer
supposed to take care of the input only.

helpful. Basically what software can be used to import the DAT using
S/PDIF and the settings that go along with that.
