You don't need the -rt kernel for that, the standard kernel will work.

Oh well, not for everyone. If you want to be sure and have no xrun
whatsoever a -rt kernel is definetly the better choice imho (don't have
data to back that up though)
I do have some data to back this up, I ran about 100 million samples
with 2.6.14 and the biggest latency I saw was ~0.6 ms. For the buffer
sizes he wants to use 2.6.14 will work fine. Of course you won't be
able to sustain quite as high a DSP load but given the problems people
are having with the -rt kernel on x64 it's worth investigating.
