OK, that's weird. I've never had that kind of problem with Audacity.
If I can see it I can record it. What version of Audacity are you

I was under the impression that there might be a
problem with
the SPDIF inputs on the envy24 chipset cards with ALSA but I could be
wrong.
I do not think so because I can mix, DA and output the signal.
