Yeah, we're way beyond alsa 0.9...
Did you ever try it under windows or with OSS (if it
supports the 2496 after
all), so you can be sure of the card? Or did you try to put it in a different
computer/slot, so you can be sure of your other hardware working correctly?
No, don't have windows on this machine. Guess I could swap in a harddrive.
But, the problem is that it is so erratic. I've been playing midis for a
few days with the 2496 with no problems ... then, it hangs. It could be
a sequence in the midi file, but I had 3 hangs this morning with the
same file and player (aplaymidi) .. but the hangs were NOT in the same
place.
Heat on the card? Stray gamma rays?
I could boot into windows, play files for awhile, and not prove anything.
Probably easiest just to get a new card.
