No, you don't:
timemachine -f wav alsa_pcm:capture_1 alsa_pcm:capture_2
will automaticly connect to the first two inputs of the soundcard and
record from there. Of course this works with every other port names
too...
Oh sorry you are right I was fooled by the debian man page ("This manual
page was written for the Debian distribution because the original
program does not have a manual page."). There isn't reported that you
can specify the jack input port on the command line.
