Hi,
I've mapped my multimedia keys to play CDs with commands from cdtool.
The only thing thats missing is a load command. There seems to be no
opposite to cdeject.
The only way I can close the tray is with
cdrecord -load dev=0,0,0
Is there anything simpler or do I simply have too much time on my
hands?

Well, from the eject(1) man page :
-t With this option the drive is given a CD-ROM tray
close command. Not all devices support this command.
Maybe this works on your system.
