I'm thinking of recommending they buy a pair

Do you think that's the right call for this room?
I have always had good luck with the JBL Eon series of speakers. You
didn't mention how powerful the Crown is, but I have a feeling the JBLs
will do a good job. Plus, since they're powered speakers, you could still
use the Bag Ends with the Crown for even more "oomph" when required, since
you won't need the crown to power the JBLs.
Make sure the place you get them will let you return or exchange them
if they're not quite what you're looking for. GC is usually good about
that, and I'd imagine anywhere else would be happy to work with you.
Thanks. Also the Mackie SRM450's look nice too. I've put stuff (electronic drums,
mostly) through both with good results.
The Crown is a CE 1000, which, I'm discovering, has roughly the same power out on each
channel as each JBL or Mackie would have. Which makes me wonder if this isn't an
insane idea.
Their Crown is dead, or appears to be, it cuts out at random intervals. So the goal here
would be to replace it with something cheap/Craigslist, and use use it to power the Bag
Ends as stage wedge monitors.
Also, I'm also learning that the placement of the speakers in the corners is seriously
not good. We're going to try to put the new speakers closer to the stage.
