The "newest" I've managed to get to work with open source drivers is the
Radeon 1650 based cards. They run fine and have 3d acceleration but most
probably they are slow when compared with the nVidia cards. And of
course they are getting scarce and are hard to find (I can dig the exact
model number we are using on Monday). X800 based Radeon's were still not
working completely last time I tested.
