In the meantime I went ahead and wrote that filter. It's attached if
anyone's interested. Now that it's written anyway, I prefer it to pd
because it uses alsa (and therefore shows up in aconnect).

I suppose your Keyboard is midi device
/dev/midi1. Then "-mididev 2"
should let you see events coming in, if you open the patch at the menu
entry: "Media -> Test audio and midi"
And I forgot: "Media->Midi settings" will let you change and configure
devices at runtime, too. This not not permanent currently, though. Use
~/.pdrc for permanent startup options.
